The Role of a Professional Trustee

The Trustee is able to use professional knowledge to ensure that the interests of Scheme members are protected within the existing pension scheme structure.

The Trustee’s presence can:

n	Ensure that the pension scheme fund is not misappropriated.

n	Protect the assets of the pension scheme, and thus reassure members about the security of their scheme.

n	Improve employee relations through correspondence with all the scheme members.

n	Monitor any conflicts of interest in, for example, cases where an actuary is both an advisor to the Pension Scheme and the sponsoring company.

n	Help in managing pension scheme experts, such as the investment manager, actuary and auditor.
